What’s better in winter than a giant bowl of Apple Crumble with ice-cream! This was a recipe passed down but I’ve made a few tweaks to take it from ok to brilliant. ⁣

As with anything I cook, nothing is set in stone. Frozen berries would compliment this well as would rhubarb (my personal favourite). Just add them in with the apples. I use green apples as their bitter flavour pairs beautifully with the sweet crumble. ⁣

My baking tray is 33cm x 7cm. If you’re using a deeper tray I’d suggest an extra 30 minutes in the oven, just keep an eye on the crumble.⁣

  • 8 Green Apples⁣
  • Ground Cinnamon - to taste⁣
  • 120g Butter⁣
  • 120g Self Raising Flour⁣
  • 90g Sugar⁣
  • Pinch of Salt⁣
  • 2 Cups of Water⁣

  1. Preheat oven to 170c (fan forced)⁣
  2. Remove core from apples and peel away skin. Cut apples in to slices approx 1cm thick⁣
  3. Arrange apples on the bottom of a baking tray and sprinkle with desired amount of ground cinnamon⁣
  4. Rub butter, flour, sugar and a pinch of salt together (I use my fingers)⁣
  5. Add water and gently mix. You want to make sure there are some lumps of dry ingredients as these become the delicious chunks of topping. The mix looks like it has curdled but that is the desired texture⁣
  6. Pour over your prepared apple slices⁣
  7. Bake for 1 hour. If it starts to brown too soon cover loosely with foil to prevent burning⁣
  8. Once removed from the oven let it sit for at least thirty minutes so the sauce thickens⁣
  9. Serve with a huge scoop of ice cream or pure cream⁣

If you make it, I would love to know what you think!
Enjoy x
